HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport opened the game earning the first attack on the offensive side of the ball.
Roheema Bennett fired a shot on goal, but Gracie VanLangevelde was there for the save. Just over 18 minutes into the game, the Panthers put the first goal in the back of the net of the game. Steiner drilled her second goal of the season, scoring on an unassisted effort 18:12 into the contest.
Regan Heintz had a shot on goal just a few minutes later, but that was stopped and DU headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers defense had one thing in mind during the second half of the game, preserve the lead, and they did just that. The Davenport defense allowed only three shots in the second half, none of which were on net. The offense helped provide an extra cushion in the 74
th minute of play. Steiner hooked up with Bertke and she sent the ball into the back of the net, bringing the Panther lead up to 2-0. The Panthers added a late goal, with only 29 seconds on the game clock, to sweeten the victory even more. Zayan scored her third of the season, assisted by
Allison Luurtsema.
Samantha Beckles and the defense recorded their fifth shutout of the season and their third straight. Davenport hasn't given up a goal in over 290 minutes of play.
