HOW IT HAPPENED
Ferris State had a couple opportunities to score early in the game, but freshman keeper
Samantha Beckles turned them away. The Bulldogs recorded shots on goal within the opening 20 minutes of play, which turned out to be the only shots on goal in the half for either team. The two teams were tied 0-0 at half.
Davenport had the first scoring opportunity in the second half, with
Marissa Woods getting a shot on goal just under eight minutes into the half, which was stopped by the FSU goalkeeper.
Sarah Possett and
Katherine Steiner both had shots, but neither were on frame, going high and wide. Both defenses and goalkeepers were stone cold in regulation, not letting in a single goal.
The Bulldogs dominated the first overtime period, recording one shot on goal, a corner kick and another shot. Davenport wasn't able to produce anything on their offensive side of the ball in the first overtime period, but that changed in the second. The 10-minute overtime period number two was full of action.
Madeleine Zayan and Possett each recorded shots on goal, but couldn't finish. The last few minutes were wild. Steiner had an open shot just outside the goalie box, but her shot went high over the post. Ferris State came down following the shot and earned a corner kick, shortly after they had a one on one opportunity and their shot went wide left with eight seconds left in the game.
The buzzer sounded and Davenport earned a tie against Ferris State, which was the teams first time earning a tie against the Bulldogs. Beckles recorded three saves in the game.
