HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Davenport University women's swimming and diving program avenged a season-opening loss to Hillsdale last season by taking down the Chargers on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers scored 160.5 points to the Chargers' 133.5 and opened their 2019-20 campaign at 1-0.
Davenport won nine of the day's 16 events and head coach,
Justin Vasquez, was pleased with his team's effort. "It was fun watching our team compete together today and seeing the growth of our program is exciting," said Vasquez.
Before we get to the individual swimming finishes, the Panthers won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.25 thanks to the team of
Lauren Bockheim,
Allison Steffin,
Dominyka Rapsyte, and
Jenna Schrotenboer. Up on the diving board,
Emily Bolt won the 1 meter (217.75 points) and
Lexis Mirandette was victorious in the 3 meter (217.5).
Individually, DU's first-place finishes included
Emma Wallis in both the 1000 free (10:39.50) and 200 IM (2:12.45), Steffin in the 100 breast (1:09.00),
Victoria Postmus in the 200 fly (2:15.07), Bockheim in the 200 back (2:10.70), and
Jesica Smit in the 200 breast (2:33.44).
Next up, Davenport is off for nearly two weeks before traveling to Wayne State on Friday, Oct. 18 to compete against both the Warriors and Tiffin at 5 p.m. in Detroit.
