CALEDONIA, Mich. - It looked a scene out of a Christmas movie on Monday afternoon when Davenport and Ashland battled in the men's soccer GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals. There were a few inches of snow that needed to be cleared off the field in order to play the postseason contest. Each team had to deal with the elements and in the end it was Davenport who picked up a 2-1 victory over the Eagles and will now advance to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals. The Panthers improve to 10-7-1 overall and will now take on Saginaw Valley State (12-5-1) who advanced to the semifinals after a bye. The top two teams in the GLIAC standings were given a path straight to the semifinals. Parkside is the one-seed and will host the next two rounds in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Cardinals are the two-seed and Davenport is the three-seed in the tournament. Davenport will be looking for their third win of the season against SVSU after wins on Sept. 20 (4-0) and Oct. 20 (3-2).
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Ashland took the early momentum as they scored on the first shot on goal of the contest in the seventh minute. John Duldner assisted Justin Libertowski who controlled the ball on the right wing area and shot from around 20 yards for his fifth of the season.
- The Panthers evened things up in the 18th minute on a header by
Brock Schultz.
Daire O'Riordan had a long cross into the box and Schultz got around a defender and used his head to direct the ball into the lower left from right in front of the goal. Schultz scored for the first time this season.

In the 33rd minute, the go-ahead goal was scored as O'Riordan who took a cross from Schultz on the right wing and finished from around 17 yards to the top left corner. It was O'Riordan's fifth goal of the season and his second game-winning goal.
- The Eagles put more pressure on the Panthers in the second half but the DU defense held firm.
Joshua Doupe had to make four saves in the final 28:04 to keep his team a goal ahead.
