CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Davenport men's soccer team is making their second appearance in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinal in the last three years. The Panthers won the 2017 GLIAC Tournament Championship and the quest for a second continues on Friday, Nov. 15 with a 2 p.m. (ET) kickoff against two-seeded Saginaw Valley State. The Panthers and Cardinals have played twice during the regular season and DU has been lucky enough to win both of those matchups. In the GLIAC opener on Sept. 20 in University Center, DU won 4-0 as
Matt Whelan scored twice and DU got other goals from
Evan Marquess and
Miguel Flores. The rematch of Oct. 20 was probably the craziest game of the year. Robbie Baker got a red card for SVSU in the 18th minute which at the time didn't deter the Cardinals from building a 2-0 lead. SVSU scored in the opening minute and again in the 33rd minute. Flores and
Daire O'Riordan scored for DU to tie the game with O'Riordan scoring on a penalty kick in the 48th minute. Another red card to the Cards did them in and
Lasse Pico Kjeldsen scored in the 88th minute on a header for the game winner.
