HILLSDALE, Mich. - In Davenport's first true road game of the season, Hillsdale set the tone early and scored eight of the contest's first nine points. At the half, the Chargers led by 18, 41-23, and the Panthers could never quite get out of that hole en route to the 83-62 defeat.
Evan Hines scored a team-high 19 points, his most as a Panther, and is averaging 17 points per game in the last three.
Chris Rollins also reached double-figures with 10 points.
Once Hillsdale went up 8-1 in the opening three minutes and change, Davenport responded with a 17-8 run of its own to go up by two, 18-16, at the 10:23 mark. Following a tie at 18-18 and the Panthers final advantage at 21-20, the Chargers closed the half on a 21-2 run to achieve the 18-point halftime margin. Out of the intermission, Davenport reeled off 11-straight points to cut the deficit to seven, 41-34, but could never get any closer to Hillsdale.
Davenport assisted on just nine field goals and turned the ball over 18 times which led to 32 Hillsdale points. The Chargers also outscored the Panthers 12-3 on second-chance opportunities and 64-22 in the paint. Davenport shot 40.7 percent from the field (22-for-54) while Hillsdale shot at a 59 percent clip (36-for-61).
The calendar will flip to December before Davenport plays again as GLIAC play opens up on Dec. 5 inside the Student Center against Purdue Northwest at 7:30 p.m.
