Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Panthers fall in regular season finale at Ashland

Evan Marquess and Ryan Zietlow each scored for DU in the 4-2 loss

ASHLAND, Ohio - The Davenport men's soccer team had a shot at claiming the GLIAC regular season title, but could not get the win at Ashland on Thursday afternoon. The game changed dramatically in the 11th minute as Carson Brinks was given a red card for a hand ball right on the goal line which saved a goal. Unfortunately that meant the Panthers would be playing a man down for the rest of the match. In the end, that was too much to overcome in a 4-2 loss to the Eagles who swept the season series.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Brinks getting the red card resulted in a penalty kick for Ashland and John Duldner converted for a 1-0 lead.
- The Panthers really played inspired for the rest of the first half and took a 2-1 lead into halftime. Evan Marquess scored his fourth of the season in the 13th minute as he booted home a penalty kick to tie the game. Ryan Zietlow then scored his third of the season in the 32nd minute. The Panthers had a corner kick and it wasn't cleared. Zietlow ripped a shot top left from 20 yards out in the middle of the field.
- Ashland would score all three goals of the second half. Jordan Dees scored in the 50th minute to tie the match. Yusuke Yasumasu scored the game-winning goal from Duldner in the 54th minute. Justin Libertowski provided an insurance goal in the 86th minute.
- Davenport managed 12 shots including six shots on goal. Ashland had 19 shots including 11 shots on goal.
- Joshua Doupe played a shade over 78 minutes and allowed three goals with five saves.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Panthers finish the regular season with a 9-7-1 record. They are currently second in the GLIAC, but one more match remains tomorrow with Saginaw Valley State traveling to Northwood. The Cardinals are sitting in third place and a win would vault them into second place. If the Timberwolves win, they will tie SVSU for third place with 27 points. In that scenario, the Panthers would be the two-seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament and advance to the semifinals. If the Cardinals win, DU will be the three-seed and host a GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal on Monday, November 11 against none other than Ashland.
