Dominant Lindenwood Defense Stifles Panthers

#2 team in the country holds DU to under 20 shots

Written by Tyler Kuehl

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – After taking a week off after a huge pair of wins against ranked competition, the D1 hockey team took on their toughest foe yet, the Lions of Lindenwood University. The last time the Panthers beat the Lions was almost three years ago.

Lindenwood showed why they are the #2 team in the country on Saturday night. Their defense was superb, and their timely scoring kept DU well out of reach, sending the Lions on their way to their fifth win at the new Centene Community Ice Center.

QUICK STATS

Final Score: Davenport 0 – Lindenwood 4
Shots: DU 17 | LU 45
Power Play: DU (0/3) | LU (1/3)
Records: DU (5-3) | #2 LU (8-2)

IN THE LIONS' DEN

Even though DU wanted to take control on the road, it would be the home Lions who would find the back of the net in the first period. Just a handful of minutes into the game, Zach Mitchell would be left alone at the back door to bang in his fourth goal of the season to put the Lindenwood out in front. Just a couple minutes later, Blake Finley would score his first of the season on a breakaway to make it a 2-0 game.

Early in period two, the Lions would strike on the power play as Hayden Ursulak would score minutes in to make it a three-goal game.

Davenport would garner a couple of good scoring chances throughout the remainder of the period, but Cooper Seedott would shut the door on the Panthers.

In the third period, the Lions would put the game away with another breakaway goal as Alex Kalau scored his fourth of the season, and the Lions would coast to the 4-0 victory.

WHO'S NEXT?

The Panthers wrap up the weekend set with the Lions on Sunday. Puck drop at Centene Community Ice Center is set for 2:35 p.m. CST.
