GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport drained a school record 18 three-pointers (18-for-34) in a 53-point rout of Great Lakes Christian College, 108-55, on Tuesday night inside the Student Center. The Panthers improved to 7-3 overall, 6-1 at home and will host Grand Valley State on Saturday with the opening tip set for 3 p.m. The Lakers (8-1, 2-0 GLIAC) received 10 votes in this week's NABC poll, which put them at 32nd in the country.
Chris Rollins led all scorers with a career-high 25 points thanks in part to seven three-pointers, which tied the school record set by both
Kevin Rich in 2016 and Tyler Ybeme in 2009. Rollins also tied his personal best in assists with eight and turned it over just twice in 26 minutes.
Four other Panthers also scored in double-figures including
Evan Hines (21),
Zach Pangborn (17 - career high),
Jarrin Randall (12), and
Alonzo Chatman (11 - career high). Pangborn made the first start of his Davenport career before finishing with five assists (tied personal best) and four rebounds. The Panthers' leading rebounder,
Tafari Beckford, brought down 11 boards, one off his career high, to go with nine points and three dimes.
In the team head-to-head, Davenport outscored Great Lakes Christian 13-7 in second-chance points, 29-19 in bench scoring, 38-20 in points in the paint, and 25-7 in fast-break points. As a team, the Panthers shot 61.3 percent from the field (38-for-62), 52.9 percent from behind the arc (18-for-34) and 73.7 percent at the free throw line (14-for-19). All 10 players that dressed for Davenport found the scoring column.
As mentioned above, next up is a showdown with Grand Valley State on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Lakers lead the all-time series with the Panthers, 4-3.
