UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Davenport entered this year's GLIAC Indoor Championships with some experience under their belt and a hunger to compete. The Panthers made leaps and bounds from the 2018 Indoor Championships to the 2019 Indoor Championships, scoring 43 points on the men's side and 34.5 on the women's. Davenport doubled their points from last season to this season, totaling 77.5 this year compared to the 38 from last year. In addition, the Panthers broke seven school records and tied two more in the process. Among those breaking records was
Emma Schafer, who broke the school record in the Pentathlon and earned the GLIAC title in as well.
Men
- Brett Schenck clocked the best time in the 60 meter dash for DU. He finished in 7.08 seconds and placed 12th overall.
- In the 200 meter dash, Colin Grady just missed the finals. Grady ran the event in 22.28 seconds and placed 10th.
- Matthew Field narrowly missed out on the finals in the 400 meter dash. Field clocked a time of 51.73 seconds and placed ninth.
- In the 800 meter run, Zach Diamond finished in 1:58.97, taking 15th place.
- Hunter Nelson and Joey Fox finished 13th and 14th in the mile. Nelson finished in 4:38.46 and Fox in 4:39.41.
- Thomas VanSlembrouck finished ninth in the 3,000 meter run. He ran the event in 8:42.42.
- In the 5,000 meter run Adam Maxwell placed 15th, finishing in 15:38.32.
- Davenport had a strong showing in the 60 meter hurdles, scoring 10 points. Craig Hoskins placed fifth with a time of 8.72 seconds. Zach Hammel-Brown got a place on the podium with his time of 8.47 seconds, taking third place.
- The relay squad of Justin Fleser, Corbin DeJonge, Field, and Hoskins took fifth place in the 4x400 meter relay. The four earned DU four points.
- The distance medley relay team also placed in the top eight for DU, scoring three points. The team of Hunter Nelson, Brad Hotovy, Noah French, and Fox finished in a time of 10:56.44, placing sixth.
- In the high jump, Romario Salmon took sixth place and earned three points. Salmon cleared 1.94 meters.
- Eric Harris finished eighth in the pole vault; scoring one point for DU. Harris cleared 4.13 meters.
- In the long jump, Obi Iwuagwu and Salmon teamed up to score 10 points for Davenport. Salmon placed fifth with his mark of 6.89 meters, while Iwuagwu jumped 6.97 meters and earned a spot on the podium, finishing third.
- Iwuagwu added onto his impressive performance with a second place finish in the triple jump. He recorded a mark of 13.96 meters, breaking the school record in the process!
- In the shot put, Isaiah Schafer took eighth with a toss of 15.05 meters.
- Brandon MacGregor finished seventh in the weight throw, recording a mark of 17.70 meters on his final throw.
Women
- Jakara Edwards-House finished 11th in the 60 meter dash, clocking a time of 7.88 seconds.
- In the 200 meter dash, Aniya Lowery finished 11th in the preliminaries with a time of 25.85. Lowery broke the school record with her time of 25.85 seconds!
- Tiler Tyler just missed the 400 meter dash finals. Tyler finished in 59.61 seconds, placing 10th.
- In the 800 meter run, Kelli Weighmink recorded a time of 2:26.69 and placed 16th overall.
- Olivia Bordewyk ran a great race in the mile. She finished in 5:10.10 and placed eighth overall. In addition, she broke the school record!
- In the 5,000 meter run, Andrea Messing placed 19th with her time of 19:35.98.
- Alexandra Eby was stellar at the meet. Eby placed eighth in the 60 meter hurdles and broke the school record with her time of 9.06 seconds in the preliminaries! She also competed in the pole vault and tied the school record by clearing 3.66 meters. Eby placed sixth in the pole vault.
- The two relay teams scored a combined seven points for Davenport. The 4x400 meter relay team of Paige Gould, Joelle Humpula, Lowery, and Tyler placed sixth with a time of 3:56.45. In the distance medley relay, the squad of Kaitlyn Rademacher, Kennedy Miedema, Bordewyk, and Weighmink finished fifth with their time of 12:41.33. Both of these times are new school records!
- In the high jump, Schafer took seventh place by clearing 1.60 meters on her second attempt.
- Joining Eby in the pole vault was Betsy Lovett. Lovett placed eighth, clearing 3.41 meters.
- In the long jump, Kelsey Graham finished in fifth. She recorded a mark of 5.42 meters on her third attempt.
- Chieme Udaku continued her dominance in the triple jump. Udaku placed third in the event, scoring six points for DU, with her jump of 11.31 meters.
- In the shot put, Lisa Wangler finished 11th with her toss of 11.80 meters.
- Jenna Schumaker placed 10th in the weight throw, throwing 16.44 meters on her first attempt.
- Lastly, Schafer was dominant in the pentathlon. Schafer recorded 3,540 points on her way to becoming the first GLIAC Indoor Champion in school history. The 3,540 points broke the school record and she also tied the high jump school record by clearing 1.68 meters!
