CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Davenport baseball team wrapped up its four-game weekend series with Saginaw Valley State on Sunday and the Cardinals took three out of four games with a 12-2 win. The Cardinals collected 17 hits off four Panther hurlers which led to all 12 runs being earned.
Gaetano Vallone took the mound for his first collegiate start and lasted two innings in the loss. John Fantauzzo got the win in relief for SVSU because starter Camden Dice went just four innings. Fantauzzo allowed one hit and no runs in three innings. Craig Wilson led the Cardinals going 4-for-4 with three RBI. Adam Turner also drove in three runs for the Cardinals.
How it Happened: After two scoreless innings by Vallone he ran into trouble in the top of the third. The first four batters reached base and all came around to score.
Michael Lincoln relieved Vallone with the bases loaded and Joshua Riggs singled to center driving in two runs. Turner also delivered a two-run scoring single to right center. Vallone's final line was three hits allowed and four runs with four walks and a strikeout.
The Cardinals scored five runs in the third and then proceeded to score five more runs in the next three innings. Lincoln went two innings and allowed five hits and three runs.
Pete Zeimis tossed two innings in the fifth and sixth and allowed five hits and three runs with a strikeout.
Max Swan finished the game going three innings and allowed four hits and two runs with three strikeouts.
Davenport scored their two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Kamrin Markwardt walked to start the inning.
Hunter Ruhstorfer hit a sacrifice fly to right which scored Marcoux and
Travis Harvey singled home a run with a single through the right side. The Panthers could manage just two hits after scoring in the fourth.
Game Notes: The Panthers finished the series with a .297 batting average. However, the pitching staff struggled to a 8.44 earned run average over 32 innings and walked 27 hitters while hitting nine more batters. Harvey had a great series batting .692 (9-13) with three runs, one double, two triples and two RBI. The Panthers had 15 extra-base hits out of 38 hits in the series.
