Panthers complete regular-season sweep of Northern Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport went up against the Wildcats for the second time this season and left no doubt after the final buzzer sounded that they are the better team. The Panthers won this contest 16-3 and outscored Northern Michigan 36-13 over the two games they played this season. The terrible weather, which consisted of snow and sleet, didn't slow down the Panthers. Davenport scored 12 goals in the first half alone and improve to 4-4 in GLIAC play.

How It Happened
Davenport wasted no time in the game, scoring a goal 53 seconds into the game. Ryann Deuel was responsible for the unassisted goal, her 35th of the season. Taylor Ries, Aaliyah Miller, and Brenna Knoll each got in on the scoring action. After Knoll scored two consecutive goals, the Panthers led by a score of 5-0. Davenport didn't let up, scoring 12 unanswered goals through the first half. The most impressive part of the first half was the Panthers defense. Northern Michigan was limited to just one shot in the whole half and didn't even record a single shot on goal. Most of the credit goes to the defense, but also to the draw control team who won nine of the 12 draw controls in the first half.

The second half went by quick as the Panthers enjoyed a running clock throughout the entire 30 minutes of play. Davenport opened the second half by scoring three unanswered goals, building their lead up to 15-0. Northern Michigan showed some life late as they scored three straight goals with under 10 minutes to go in the game. Miller stopped that run with an unassisted goal with 3:33 left on the clock. Neither team scored down the stretch.

The Panthers are now 7-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Davenport has won every game that they scored 15 or more goals.
