GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers faced Grand Valley State in a conference battle and lost to the nationally-ranked Lakers. Grand Valley State is the fourth nationally-ranked team that Davenport has faced this season. A five-goal streak by the Lakers, that went from the end of the first till the start of the second, shifted the momentum of the game dramatically. The loss puts Davenport at 3-4 in conference play this season, which puts them at fifth place in the GLIAC.

How It Happened
Grand Valley opened the game scoring two goals. In the fifth minute of play
Taylor Ries scored on an unassisted effort and was rewarded with a loud cheer from the fans. The crowd was electric in the first half and the Panthers rode that energy. Davenport stayed close behind the Lakers in the score, trailing by a max three goals at any point in the half. The Panthers scored back to back goals, one by
Ryann Deuel and another by
Aaliyah Miller, to make the score 4-3 in favor of GVSU. The teams traded a couple goals and with roughly one minute to go in the half DU trailed 6-5. The Lakers scored two goals in the final minute, including a goal with under 10 seconds, to take an 8-5 lead into the half.
The Lakers controlled the opening 10 minutes of the half, scoring three consecutive goals and holding DU scoreless. Grand Valley took an 11-5 lead with 19:38 to play in the game. Davenport scored their first goal of the half in the 15
th minute, ending the five-goal run that GVSU was on. The Panthers were able to string together two unassisted goals later on in the half, cutting the deficit to five goals, but couldn't get it any lower.
