CALEDONIA, Mich. – Davenport waited over 99 minutes before their first goal of this game and it was well worth the wait! Junior
Madeleine Zayan helped give DU their first win of the season with a game winner in the 100
th minute of play. The win marks the first for new head coach
Paige Eli and is a nice confidence booster heading into a road trip out of state.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport carried over, from Friday's game against Quincy, their domination in possessing the ball during the first half. The ball was snapping all over the field from one Panther to the next, resulting in a trio of shots on goal by DU. None of the shots found the back of the net and the score was tied 0-0 at half.
Momentum shifted in the second half, with Truman getting some quality looks at the net. Freshman keeper
Samantha Beckles stood tall in the net, coming up with three important saves over the 45-minute half. The Bulldogs put Beckles and the Davenport defense to the test during a five-minute stretch late in regulation. Truman State had four corner kicks and a shot on goal between the 80
th-85
th minutes of regulation. Davenport had a scoring opportunity late, but a shot by
Holly Bertke was stopped by Beth Hopwood.
In overtime soccer all you need is one opportunity to score, that's all it takes to end the game. The Panthers got just that in the final minute of overtime period number one. A pass up top from
Ashlyn Skidmore was headed forward by
Katherine Steiner and a streaking Zayan found herself with the Panthers best scoring opportunity of the game. Zayan took a few touches and she placed the ball in the right corner of the net. The goal was the first for the Panthers this season and helped DU improve to 1-1.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will travel to Iowa next weekend to face Upper Iowa and Concordia University of St. Paul in a couple of non-conference games. Both will be played at Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa.
