ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Panthers opened the 2020 year by staying local. The team traveled to Allendale and competed in the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open, a one-day meet.
Claude Ockert and
Isaiah Schafer had quality marks, both in throwing events. Ockert hit the NCAA Division II provision mark in the weight throw and Schafer improved upon his mark in the shot put. In addition, Schafer broke the school record!
Women
- Joelle Humpula placed 10th in the 60 meter dash, finishing in a time of 8.24 seconds.
- In the 200 meter dash, Stacia Rispress and Emma Schafer placed in the top 15. Rispress ran the event in 26.70 seconds, finishing ninth, while Schafer finished in 27.01 seconds and placed 13th.
- Kyla Chappell was the lone Panther to compete in the 400 meter dash, she placed eighth with a time of 1:01.90.
- In the 800 meter run, Erin Dorn finished in 2:30.36, taking sixth place, and Sarah Stapleton clocked a time of 2:30.47, finishing in seventh.
- Julianna Wilson competed in the mile, running the event in 5:50.40 and finishing 21st.
- In the 3,000 meter run, Avri Beach placed 32nd with a time of 12:27.85.
- Davenport had two top-five finishers in the 60 meter hurdles, Alexandra Eby and Schafer. Eby placed third with a time of 9.28 seconds in the finals and Schafer placed second with a time of 9.24 seconds.
- In the high jump, Samantha Morrison cleared 1.48 meters, finishing 11th.
- Madeline Elmquist and Eby both placed in the top-five in the pole vault. Elmquist cleared 3.20 meters on her first try, placing fourth. Eby also cleared 3.20 meters, placing third.
- In the long jump, Kelsey Graham jumped 5.17 meters and placed fourth.
- Rachel Morris (eighth) and Schafer (ninth) competed in the shot put. Morris tossed 11.26 meters on her final throw and Schafer threw 11.06 meters on her second attempt.
- In the weight throw, Jenna Schumaker took third place with a mark of 16.19 meters.
Men
- In the 60 meter dash, Colin Grady placed 12th with a time of 7.17 seconds.
- Malcolm Caldwell and Grady each finished in the top-10 in the 200 meter dash. Caldwell clocked a time of 22.84 seconds, placing ninth, while Grady finished in 22.57 seconds and placed fifth.
- In the 400 meter dash, Jack Sandstedt placed eighth with a time of 51.39 seconds.
- Collin Graham competed in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:01.32 and placing sixth.
- In the mile, Hunter Nelson took 18th with a time of 4:43.19.
- Joey Fox and TJ Moore finished within seconds of each other in the 3,000 meter run. Fox finished in 9:27.22 and took 18th, while Moore finished in 9:28.53 and placed 21st.
- Davenport had a strong showing in the 60 meter hurdles, taking four of the top six spots. Caldwell took the top spot with a time of 8.32 seconds. Coming in second was Corbin DeJonge, who clocked a time of 8.64 seconds. Zach Hammel-Brown placed fifth with a time of 8.71 seconds and Craig Hoskins placed sixth with a time of 8.98 seconds.
- Jacob Atlas cleared 3.60 meters in the pole vault, placing seventh.
- In the long jump, Romario Salmon placed second. He jumped 6.79 meters on his fourth attempt.
- Schafer continues his impressive start to the season in the shot put. He placed first, for the second straight meet, with a mark of 16.53 meters. The mark broke the old school record of 16.35 meters by Joshua Coston and moves Schafer up to the fourth best mark in the country.
- In the weight throw, Schafer saw some more success and Ockert joined Schafer in the NCAA ranks. Schafer threw 15.53 meters and took sixth place in the meet. Ockert, tossed 17.86 meters on his second attempt, taking first place in the meet and hitting the NCAA Division II provisional standard. He is only the second male at DU to do so this season.
