Panthers lead vanquishes in fourth quarter

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In their final home game of the 2019-20 season, Davenport controlled the game until the final quarter, but ultimately fell to Northwood. The Panthers have struggled finishing games this season, and this game fit that script. Heading into the final quarter of play, DU held a 51-48 lead over the Timberwolves. A 27-point quarter for Northwood, compared to the Panthers 19, is what flipped the momentum. Davenport finishes their home slate with a 6-8 record this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was low scoring, for both teams. After 10 minutes of play the game was tied 11-11. Davenport picked things up in the second, scoring 18 points as a team. It was looking like the score would be tied heading into halftime, as it was sitting 23-23 with 1:48 to play in the second. The Panthers ended the half on a 6-0 run, getting threes from Toni Grace and Emily Lange to give them a six point lead heading into half.

Both teams came out scoring in bunches after the break, combining for 47 points. Northwood opened the half on an 11-2 run, giving NU the lead early in the second half. Davenport didn't cave, going on some runs themselves and regaining the lead. On two separate occasions, DU held a lead of six points in the third quarter. A late three by Northwood cut the Davenport lead down to three heading into the final quarter.

The final quarter was a different story compared to the opening three quarters. Northwood outscored Davenport 27-19 and led by as much as nine in the quarter. After a pair of free throws by Madison Jones, DU trailed by just three points with two minutes on the clock. Fast forward, a couple possessions later, Alli Keyser hit a dagger of a three with 57 seconds in the game to go up by six. Following the three by Keyser, the lead remained at four or more for the rest of the game.
