Panthers drop a close one to Southeastern

ORLANDO, Fla. - The men's tennis team has been involved in four very close matches as of late and the latest one was a 4-3 loss to Southeastern (Fla.) at the USTA National Campus. The Panthers had a two-match win streak snapped and it was just their second loss of the season (7-2). Southeastern improved to 5-1 this season.

The Panthers got off to a good start by winning all three doubles matches. Juan-Louis van Antwerpen formed a duo with Juan Jose Pino Contoleon and got a 6-4 win at one doubles. Remy Johansen and Jonathan Bulmer forged a partner at two doubles and were victorious 6-3. Daniil Khitrou and Matt Leatherman at three doubles managed a 6-3 win.

The Fire rallied to take the match in singles play by winning four of the six matches. van Antwerpen went three sets at two singles and beat Santiago Haas by scores of 7-5, 3-6, 6-0. Khitrou at four singles also had a straight set win (6-4, 6-3) over Enrique Martinez. DU fought to the bitter end as two of the losses came in three sets. Bulmer at three singles dropped the first set (7-5) and took the second set (6-4). Felipe Barbosa won 6-4 in the deciding set for the Fire. Contoleon at five singles faced off with Omar Fiorenzato. Contoleon won 6-4 in the first set and then dropped the next two by scores of 7-6, 6-1.
