ORLANDO, Fla. - The women's tennis team hit the hard courts again on Tuesday during their annual spring trip. The Panthers faced another nationally-ranked team in #18 Florida Southern, marking the second nationally-ranked opponent in the last three matches. The Mocs took a 6-1 win in the first meeting between the schools.
It was a promising start for DU as they won two of the three doubles matchups to earn a point.
Adeline Nelson and
Vladislava Shumilova at one doubles won 6-4 over Flor Salerno and Minnie Kim. The two doubles tandem of
Willemien Coetzee and
Lillian Mouw earned a hard-fought 7-5 win over Magda Stepnik and Mathilda Vidgren. Those were enough to earn the point, but the momentum faded in the singles.
Coetzee at one singles dropped a 6-0 first set, but that did not deter her. She came back to win 7-5 in the second set. Laura Vetter took the match with a 10-6 score in the super tiebreaker.
Danica Malan fell 6-3, 6-0 at two singles against Salerno.
Sophie Gossett at five singles lost 6-2, 6-2 to Lola Asis.Â
