GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team got reacquainted with old-time foe Cornerstone on Saturday morning. The Panthers improved to 5-0 with a 6-1 win over the Golden Eagles who are now 3-2 this season.
The doubles format belonged to the Panthers who won two of the three matchups. The one doubles of Juan Jose Contoleon and
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen defeated Aliaksei Kanstantsin and Mateo Jimenez in a tiebreak at 7-6 (7-5) to earn a big one.
Jonathan Bulmer and
Max Hartman secured a point at three doubles with a 6-1 win over Jacob Stegman and Matthew Hall.
The singles matches saw DU capture five of the six to secure the team win. Four of the wins were in straight sets highlighted by Bulmer winning 6-1, 6-1 at two singles over Kanstantsin. Hartman picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at five singles over Hall.
Daniil Khitrou was victorious at three singles over John Cocoma by scores of 6-1, 7-6 (7-1). Contoleon had a battle winning in three sets at four singles by scores of 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 against Tomas Yacuzio.
The Panthers will be back on the court on Friday, Feb. 14 at home against Illinois-Springfield.
