Panthers win on senior day; Jenna Falkenberg records her 23rd career double-double

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It is always a special day when you get to honor the seniors, it is that much better when the team adds a win on top! Davenport did just that today, beating Wayne State 74-63 and honored their two seniors following the win. This marks the second time in the last three years that DU earned a victory on senior night. The Panthers shot 18/19 from the free throw line in the game, with the sole miss coming in the fourth quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wayne State was scorching hot to start the contest and Davenport quickly found themselves down 2-13. However, Davenport turned things around in a jiffy, outscoring the Warriors 14-4 during the rest of the first quarter. Wayne State held a 17-16 lead after the first.
 
Davenport started the second quarter on an 8-0 run, which included a three by Emily Lange, a layup by Jenna Falkenberg and three free throws by Falkenberg. The Panthers grew their lead up to eight points during one point in the quarter and held the Warriors to only 27 points for the half. Davenport went into halftime with a five-point lead, with the last points of the half belonging to Ryan Harvey off a steal and layup in transition.
 
The Panthers weathered the Wayne State storm in the third quarter and held onto the lead for a majority of the 10 minutes. Only during a couple plays was the game tied, but other than that, the Panthers led for the whole quarter. Davenport went into the final quarter leading 52-46.
 
Davenport was 10 minutes away from earning a victory for their seniors. Wayne State made a run down the stretch, cutting the lead down to only three points. Scout Nelson scored a layup on the ensuing DU possession and the Panthers closed the final two minutes of play on a 10-2 run. The team went 11/12 from the charity stripe in the final quarter.
