Emma Schafer repeats as GLIAC Champion in the pentathlon

Davenport had six podium finishes

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Panthers had their best performance as a team at the GLIAC Indoor Championships to date. Both the men and women placed fifth, scoring a combined 97 points, the most in school history at the GLIAC Indoor Championships. Davenport had six podium finishes, including a GLIAC Champion in Emma Schafer. She successfully defended her title in the pentathlon, broke the school record and moved up in the national rankings. Freshman Jacob Atlas earned DU's first-ever GLIAC Indoor Major Award. Atlas was named the GLIAC Freshman Field Athlete of The Meet. All in all, the team broke three school records, had two new student-athletes hit NCAA Division II provisional qualifier marks, three more improved upon their qualifying marks, six total podium finishes, a GLIAC individual champion, a GLIAC major award winner and the most combined team points in school history.
 
Men
  • In the 60 meter dash preliminaries, Colin Grady placed 10th with a time of 7.07 seconds, Joe Grundstrom finished 12th with a time of 7.19 seconds and Tommy Herring placed 14th with a time of 7.33 seconds.
  • Grady and Juan Vazquez competed in the 200 meter dash preliminaries. Grady finished eighth with a time of 22.13 seconds and Vazquez finished 15th with a time of 23.71 seconds.
  • In the 400 meter dash preliminaries, Matthew Field placed 13th and Jack Sandstedt 17th. Field finished in 51.34 seconds and Sandstedt in 53.01 seconds.
  • Joey Fox, Brad Hotovy, and Collin Graham all ran in the 800 meter run. Fox placed 13th with a time of 2:00.33, Hotovy in 17th with a time of 2:03.44, and Graham in 19th with a time of 2:07.61.
  • In the mile, Hunter Nelson placed 15th with a time of 4:33.44.
  • Trevor Luznak ran in the 3,000 meter finals, placing 19th with a time of 9:42.81.
  • In the 5,000 meter race, TJ Moore had a time of 15:54.22 and placed 18th.
  • Malcolm Caldwell placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles finals and Corbin DeJonge finished eighth. Caldwell clocked a time of 8.32 seconds and DeJonge in 8.57 seconds.
  • The 4x400 meter relay team of Craig Hoskins, Graham, DeJonge, and Field placed seventh with a time of 3:22.78.
  • In the distance medley relay, Zach Hammel-Brown, Hotovy, Nelson, and Fox finished in 10:46.09 and placed sixth.
  • Austin Berg finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters on his second attempt.
  • In the pole vault, Atlas took silver by clearing 4.43 meters on his second attempt. The second place finish was tied for the highest finish by a DU male at the meet. Atlas also earned the GLIAC Freshman Field Athlete of The Meet, the first-ever major award that Davenport has won at the GLIAC Indoor Championships.
  • Romario Salmon finished fifth and Grady sixth in the long jump. Salmon jumped 6.91 meters and Grady 6.73 meters.
  • In the triple jump, Berg placed 10th with a mark of 12.24 meters.
  • Isaiah Schafer had a podium finish in the shot put, placing third with a mark of 16.69 meters. Noah Evers placed 10th with a toss of 14.49 meters and Joe Corts in 11th with a mark of 14.14 meters.
  • In the weight throw, Claude Ockert took fifth place with a throw of 18.83 meters. This was a personal best for Ockert and improved upon his qualifying mark from earlier in the season.
  • Noah Dooley had a monster day in the heptathlon. He placed second, scoring 5,145 points, breaking the school record, and hitting the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. Ryan Olsen also had a podium finish in this event, placing third with 4,208 points.

Women
  • In the 60 meter preliminaries, Joelle Humpula finished 11th, clocking a time of 8.06 seconds, while Mya Staczek placed 15th with a time of 8.23 seconds.
  • Staczek also competed in the 200 meter preliminaries. She placed 18th with a time of 27.35 seconds.
  • In the 400 meter preliminaries, Kyla Chappell placed 14th and had a time of 1:01.65.
  • Three Panthers competed in the 800 meter finals. Erin Dorn placed 13th with a time of 2:25.07, Sarah Stapleton in 18th with a time of 2:29.87 and Autumn Hancock in 20th with a time of 2:35.29.
  • In the mile, Julianna Wilson finished in 22nd place with a time of 5:42.27.
  • Morgan Posthuma placed 15th in the 5,000 meter run, finishing in 18:34.47.
  • In the 60 meter hurdles finals, Schafer placed fifth with a time of 9.02 seconds and Alexandra Eby finished ninth with a time of 9.61 seconds.
  • The squad of Stacia Rispress, Humpula, Chappell, and Schafer placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with at time of 4:01.16.
  • In the distance medley relay, Alison Toner, Dorn, Stapleton, and Wilson placed eighth with a time of 13:20.30.
  • Rispress had a podium finish in the high jump, placing second by clearing 1.66 meters. This was a personal best for Rispress and scored eight points for Davenport. Schafer also scored points, finishing fourth by clearing 1.61 meters. Deidre Lorton finished 10th in the event, clearing 1.56 meters.
  • In the pole vault, Madeline Elmquist finished fourth by clearing 3.65 meters on her first attempt. Elmquist hit the NCAA Divison II provisional qualifying standard and hit a personal best in the event.  Eby finished eighth by clearing 3.50 meters and Myah Kelly placed ninth by clearing 3.35 meters.
  • Davenport finished 10th, 11th, and 12th in the long jump. Kiley Guelzo placed 10th with a mark of 5.11 meters, Kelsey Graham in 11th with a jump of 5.04 meters, and Mackenzie Brigham in 12th with a mark of 5.02 meters.
  • In the triple jump, Graham placed seventh with a mark of 10.49 meters, Brigham in eight with a mark of 10.32 meters, and Samantha Morrison in ninth with a jump of 10.16 meters.
  • Rachel Morris finished 12th in the shot put with a toss of 11.48 meters.
  • In the weight throw, Jenna Schumaker finished in ninth with a toss of 18.13 meters. This was a personal best for Schumaker and moves her up the national rankings. Morris placed 21st with a mark of 12.11 meters.
  • Schafer had the best individual performance of the meet out of any Panther. She defender her GLIAC title in the pentathlon, scoring 3,634 points and placing first. Schafer broke the school record and now sits ranked 14th overall in the country. Rispress placed fifth with 2,974 points and Morrison in seventh with 2,803 points.
