INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The second week of the 2021 season did not get any easier for the Davenport men's wrestling squad as they went outside of conference but stayed in region to battle with #8 Tiffin and #16 Findlay on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
The Panthers had a greater showing on Saturday against the pair of G-MAC schools. The Dragons did pick up the win but the margin of 27-20 was very promising for the Panthers. The first two matches were won by fall for Tiffin, but
Liam Hillary got the Panthers on the board at 141 pounds with a technical fall 19-2 at 4:27 over Ashten Moody. The momentum continued at 149 pounds as
Jordan Ringler picked up a shutout win 5-0 over Dylan Mansor.
After two more wins by the Dragons,
Sam Greco clawed his team back with a 174-pound victory over Zachary Bierfeldt who retired due to injury at 3:14.
Jackson Nevadomski followed that with a 4-0 win at 184 pounds over Nicolas Smythe. The margin proved to be too much after a loss at 197 pounds, but 285-pound class bout saw
River Fox for the Panthers win 3-1 over David Henson.
The Findlay matchup started slowly with four straight wins by the Oilers who built an 18-0 lead with two wins by fall at 133 and 149 pounds respectively. Ringler posted his second win of the day over Mason Kleinberg by fall at 2:25 to earn six team points. Greco joined the two-win club on the day at 174 pounds with a 7-4 victory over Mark Trifelos. Nevadomski right afterwards won his matchup at 184 pounds over Daniel Rosales (4-3). Fox finished up with another win at 285 pounds. He beat Jacob Charette by fall at 6:04.
