Men's Basketball Looks to Ride the Wave Against Ashland

Riding a two-game winning streak and coming off a 73-70 win at rival Grand Valley State, the Davenport University men's basketball team will welcome Ashland into the DU Student Center on Friday (5 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.). The Panthers have gotten back to 2-5 overall while the Eagles just had their three-game winning streak snapped to fall to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in GLIAC play.

Statistically for Davenport, Chris Rollins is pacing the Panthers in scoring with 16.6 points per game and has scored 20 or more in each of his last two outings. That includes a season-high 23 in the team's first win, 89-75 over Purdue Northwest, followed by 22 at Grand Valley State. Also averaging at least 10 points per game for the Panthers are Scott Ulaneo (14.7), who leads the squad in rebounding with 7.7 per game and his coming off his first-career double-double, and Evan Hines (11.4). Rollins is on top of the team in both assists with 4.0 per game and steals per game with 3.4.

Ashland has been able to spread the wealth so far offensively as six different players average at least eight points per game including Bo Furcron (12.6), Brandon Haraway (12.0), Hunter Shedenheim (9.6), Aaron Thompson (9.5), Ethan Conley (8.6), and Derek Koch (8.4). Thompson is the Eagles' leading rebounder with 6.9 per game while three different players are dishing out at least two assists per game including Haraway (2.8), Koch (2.6) and Thompson (2.5). As a team, though, Ashland has struggled and is last in the GLIAC in points per game (62.1 points per game) and tied for 10th out of 12 teams in field goal percentage (40.2 percent). However, the Eagles has played admirably on defense as they rank third in the league in scoring defense (62.8 points per game) and tied for fourth in field goal percentage defense (42.9 percent).
