Panthers fall 65-53 at Ashland

Emily Lange led the team with 17 points, five rebounds and one blocked shot

ASHLAND, Ohio - The Davenport women's basketball team was looking for a weekend split at Ashland on Saturday but came up a little short by a final of 65-53. The Panthers fall to 2-7 this season while the Eagles improved to 6-3.

The game swung on the third quarter as Davenport trailed 27-26 at halftime but was outscored 15-8 in the third. Ashland held DU to 2-of-13 shooting in the quarter and themselves shot 6-of-13 for 46.2 percent. The Eagles also shot the ball very well in the fourth quarter going 10-of-15 from the floor including 2-of-2 behind the arc. Davenport shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the fourth and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Ashland built their biggest lead at 13 points at the 7:48 mark of the final quarter. Davenport led for just 1:24 of the contest and had their biggest lead of two points at the 2:24 mark of the second quarter.

The game featured four lead changes and three ties. The Panthers took their first lead of the game at that 2:24 mark of the second quarter on a pair of free throws by Toni Grace. DU took a brief lead early in the third quarter at 29-27 after a Kenzie Wilkinson three-pointer but the Eagles responded with a three of their own and did not trail for the rest of the game.

Karlee Pireu scored nine of her 18 points in the fourth quarter and also finished with a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds. Hallie Heidemann scored 15 points and grabbed six boards for the Eagles.

Emily Lange led the Panthers with 17 points, five rebounds and one blocked shot off the bench. Lange went 7-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-2 behind the arc. Grace scored 15 points and had two steals. Wilkinson ended with seven points, three rebounds and three steals in 21:19 of game action.
