UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State scored two first-half goals to defeat Davenport, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at Braddock Field. Next up, the Panthers will host No. 1 Grand Valley State on Sunday at The Farm beginning at 11 a.m.
The Cardinals tallied their two scores in the 28th and 33rd minutes, but were narrowly out-shot by the Panthers, 17-16, while the home team held the upper hand in shots on goal, 11-8. Stephanie Strong (assisted by Lea Grunnagel) and Solana Kelly (also assisted by Grunnagel) did the scoring for SVSU with their ninth and first goals of the season, respectively.
Individually for the Panthers, their 17 shots came from nine different players and six of those nine recorded multiple attempts including
Haley Diekevers (3 shots, 3 SOG),
Medina Hindic (3 shots),
Gabby Scholten (2 shots, 1 SOG),
Kylee Winn (2 shots, 1 SOG),
Ellie Fisher (2 shots, 1 SOG), and
Filippa Struxsjoe (2 shots).
In goal,
Gabriana Bennecke faced 11 shots with nine saves, a career high for the sophomore netminder from Plainwell, Mich.
