CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport University women's soccer team held No. 1 Grand Valley State without a first-half goal on Sunday for the first time in series history (seventh meeting), something that'd only happened to the Lakers four times this season. However, GVSU tallied three scores in the second half to hand DU a 3-0 defeat at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
The Lakers (14-0-1, 10-0-1 GLIAC) scored their goals in the 50th, 57th and 87 minutes while out-shooting the Panthers (2-12-1, 2-8-1 GLIAC) 14-6, including 8-2 in shots on goal. The home team did out-shoot its visitors in the first half, though, 4-3.
For the Panthers, their six shots came from five players including
Medina Hindic (2 shots),
Regan Heintz (1 SOG),
Raegan Radaz (1 SOG),
Haley Diekevers (1 shot), and
Gabby Scholten (1 shot).
In goal for DU,
Gabriana Bennecke made her seventh-straight start with four saves on 14 shots faced.
Next up for the Panthers, they'll be at Purdue Northwest on Friday with the opening kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET in Hammond, Ind.
