GLIAC Tournament Central
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The fifth-seeded Davenport University women's volleyball team is set to make its second GLIAC Tournament appearance in as many seasons on Wednesday night (7 p.m.) and fourth in five campaigns since joining the league. Entering with an overall record of 15-11, 7-7 in GLIAC play, the Panthers will be at fourth-seeded Grand Valley State (17-8, 10-4 GLIAC) facing the Lakers for the third time this season. Grand Valley State won both meetings between the two teams this fall, both of which lasted four sets, but leads the all-time series by just one, 6-5.
Davenport and Grand Valley State have faced each other 11 times in the all-time series, but none of those meetings have come in the GLIAC Tournament. For matchup No. 12, the two squads come in having played some of their best volleyball as of late. Davenport has won seven of its last nine matches while Grand Valley State has been victorious in eight of its last nine outings.
Statistically, both teams are among the top five in the GLIAC for multiple categories. Davenport is second in blocks, third in kills, third in digs, and fourth in assists. On the other side, Grand Valley State is second in kills, third in assists, fourth in blocks, and fifth in digs. Individually, the Panthers are led by
Hayley Kreiger (429 kills - first in GLIAC) while the Lakers are paced by Ali Thompson (3.6 points per set - sixth in GLIAC).
