Women's Soccer Caps Regular Season with 3-1 Win at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. - Haley Diekevers broke the program's DII record for goals in a single season, Angelina McSauby (pictured) scored her second career goal in as many matches and Filippa Struxsjoe provided some insurance as Davenport finished the regular season on a high note at Parkside. The Panthers 3-1 defeat of the Rangers on Sunday gives them some positive momentum heading into the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday at Ferris State.

The victory improved Davenport to 4-13-1 overall and 4-9-1 in GLIAC play while Parkside dropped to 3-13-2 on the season and 1-9-1 in league action. Those four conference wins are tied for the Panthers' most since joining the GLIAC prior to the 2017 campaign.

Trailing 1-0, Diekevers got Davenport on the board in the 35th minute as she dribbled around her defender just to the left of the 18-yard box before curling a strike into the left side of the goal. The score gave the rookie forward her eighth goal of the fall, the most by a Panther true freshman in a single season since Alayna Hilgendorf racked up 12 of them in 2015.

Then, under three and a half minutes later, McSauby's Cinderella story continued as she beat her defender and dribbled in from the left side before putting it in the back of the net. In her 27 career matches (including 14 at Olivet) prior to Friday's Senior Day effort against Ferris State, McSauby hadn't registered a goal or even a shot attempt. In her two outings since then, the Wyoming native has five shots, four of which were on goal, and two of which found the back of the net.

Turning the page to the second half, Struxsjoe was fouled hard in the box in the 55th minute and converted her penalty kick attempt into a comfortable 3-1 lead for Davenport. That score gave the Aquinas transfer four goals on the season and 60 for her illustrious collegiate career including 21 as a Saint (2019-20) and 35 at Santa Monica College (2017-18).

In goal, Gabriana Bennecke made three saves on 11 shots faced, including five in the first half and six in the second.
