Davenport Takes Saturday Matinee in Straight Sets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team finished off the weekend sweep of Purdue Northwest on Saturday and did so with set scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-17. The Panthers improved to 2-2 on the young season and will travel to Lake Superior State next Friday (3 p.m. first serve) and Saturday (12 p.m.).

How It Happened
- The first set was the closest one of the match as it saw a total of seven ties, but the lead only changed hands once.
- At one point, Davenport used an 8-1 run to pull ahead by five, 13-8, before Purdue Northwest rallied back to tie it for a final time at 19-19.
- The Panthers then responded by scoring six of the set's final eight points to win it by four, 25-21, and go up 1-0 in the match.
- The home team really began to assert itself in the second set when it scored seven of the first eight points and eight of its first 10.
- After that, the visitors could never get closer than five (8-3, 9-4) and the hosts led by as many as nine (15-6, 17-8, 19-10, 23-14, 25-16).
- The Pride scored the first two points to open the third set before the Panthers reeled off nine-straight points and 12 of the next 13 to go ahead by nine, 12-3.
- From there until the end of the match, Purdue Northwest got as close as six (12-6), while Davenport was up by as many as 15 (22-7).
