The Davenport men's lacrosse team has been waiting for another chance to get back on the field in 2021. They entered their first season as members of the NCAA in 2020 and had some success in the last two games with a win at Adams State and a one-goal loss at Colorado State-Pueblo. Head Coach
Chris Esquivel liked what he saw out of his team and the fact that they did not fold in games where they trailed in the fourth quarter. This year, nine newcomers join a roster of experienced returners to form what Esquivel feels will be a fun squad to watch.
The Panthers will have a 12-game scheduled in 2021 exclusively in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. DU is an affiliate member of the conference since the GLIAC does not sponsor men's lacrosse. Davenport was picked sixth in this year's preseason poll in the GLVC, but Esquivel believes that his team has what it takes to move up once the season concludes.
Things get going on Sunday as the Panthers make the trip to Kansas City, Mo. to battle Rockhurst University. Rockhurst was picked second in the preseason poll and had one first-place vote. It should be a good test right out of the gates for the Panthers and it will be the first meeting between the schools.
