NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Music City played a couple of sweet tunes on the diamond as Davenport won for the second time to take the series at Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday. DU improved to 5-5 playing a tough non-conference schedule with a 13-12 win in 10 innings against the Trojans who are now 4-2 overall.
Davenport scored double digits for the fourth time in the last five games and collected 17 hits. The Panthers battled back in this one as Trevecca led 7-3 after three innings. Both teams scored two runs in the fourth and then the big swing inning was the sixth as DU scored six times to take an 11-9 lead.
Carson Eby and
Nolan Bryant had two-RBI singles and
Ben Mets had the go-ahead hit on a double to center.
Trevecca tied it up at 11 in the ninth inning to set up extra innings for the first time for the Panthers this season. Mets hit a one-out solo homer for a 12-11 lead.
Kamrin Markwardt followed with a double to right and later scored on Eby's RBI double to left.
Austin VanderMarkt made his first appearance on the mound in the 10th and picked up a save. The Trojans scored once but stranded the tying run at third.
Eby had a career-high five RBI going 5-for-6 with two doubles and a home run. Mets went 3-for-5 with four RBI, a double and homer.
Christian Petre went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a homer.
Spencer Vainavicz got the win for DU going 2/3 of an inning and gave up two runs.
Cal Djuraskovic had the most effective performance on the mound going three innings and allowing no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.
The Panthers will play at home after 10 straight road games to start the season on Saturday, March 20 against Gannon with a 1 PM first pitch at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
