GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team started off Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in shutout fashion with a 7-0 win over Michigan Tech on Friday at MVP SportsPlex. Davenport is now 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC.
The Huskies were unable to field a complete lineup and therefore had to forfeit three doubles and six singles. Davenport took the doubles point then with a 6-4 win at the one spot as
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and
Jonathan Bulmer defeated Siddhesh Mahadeshwar and Eli Pinnoo. The other matchup at the two spot went into a tiebreaker with the Huskies winning 7-6 (9-7).
The Panthers won in straight sets except for a battle at the two position as
Frank Piana III beat Ricardo Nunez 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Daniil Khitrou and Bulmer each won 6-3, 6-3 in singles.
