Panthers pounce on Gannon 14-5

DU has scored in double figures in six of their last seven games

CALEDONIA, Mich. - It was a weekend sweep for the Davenport baseball team as they improved to 7-5 overall with a 14-5 win over Gannon at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers have won four straight and scored in double figures in six of their last seven games.

Ben Mets got things going in the five-run first inning with a bases-clearing triple plating Nolan Bryant, Nolan Anspaugh and Travis Harvey. Noah Marcoux and Carson Eby also had RBI singles in the first inning to start the game off strong.

The Panthers would add another run in the second inning as Harvey singled to left and scored Anspaugh for the 6-0 lead. The scoring continued with two more runs in the third courtesy of an RBI single by Christian Petre and a RBI triple by Bryant.

Eby had another RBI single in the fourth inning for a 9-0 advantage. James Rogers went four scoreless innings to start the game but allowed one run in the fifth. Rogers would get the win in five innings pitched improving to 3-1. He allowed just three hits and the run allowed was unearned. He walked one and struck out four needing 79 pitches.

Gannon would cut the lead to 10-5 with three runs in their half of the seventh inning. However, DU responded right back with four runs in the bottom half. Anspaugh had a RBI single and Harvey drove in two more with his fourth hit of the game, a single to center field.

Davenport finished with 17 hits including a double and three triples. Bryant had that double and a triple going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Petre went 3-for-6 in the leadoff spot with three runs scored. Mets finished with three RBI and drew two walks. Eby went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Cal Djuraskovic pitched the final two innings and allowed just one hit with three strikeouts.
