Davenport Breaks Through in 2-1 Win at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. - Looking to pick up its first win of the season, the Davenport women's soccer team did just that on Sunday afternoon at Parkside. Trailing 1-0 with under 15 minutes left to play in the match, Madeleine Zayan scored twice in under a minute and that's where the score stood as the Panthers held off the Rangers in the closing moments for the 2-1 victory.

"Given the conditions in today's game, it was a great match from both teams," said head coach, Paige Eli. "I'm very proud of our ladies for putting in a solid second half performance and executing the game plan today to get our first win of the season!"

Zayan was assisted by Kylee Winn on the first goal before both Winn and Ellie Fisher helped the senior score the second time. The sophomore, Winn, and freshman, Fisher, put their name in the assist column for the first time in their careers while Zayan found the back of the net multiple times in a single match for the second time in her career (first since freshman season).

Zayan notched four of Davenport's seven shots on goal and the other three came from Ashlyn Skidmore. Those two had four total shots apiece while Kandis Orns (2), Kathryn Hoeger (1), Marissa Woods (1), and Fisher also tallied a shot attempt.

In goal, Samantha Beckles faced 16 shots and made four saves.

Next up on the schedule, Davenport will be at Ferris State (4-0) on Thursday, April 1 with the opening kickoff set for 4 p.m.
