WESTVILLE, Ind. - In the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday, the Davenport women's basketball team saw their season come to an end against top-seeded Michigan Tech 79-52. DU concludes with a 6-14 overall record while the Huskies, ranked ninth nationally, improve to 18-1 and have won 16 straight games heading into the semifinals.
The Huskies came out strong in the first quarter and led 24-11 after 10 minutes. Tech scored the game's first seven points and never trailed in the contest. The Huskies led 39-23 at the 5:17 mark of the second quarter when the Panthers put together their best stretch of the game. DU went on an 11-0 run to close out the quarter and then trailed by just five points at 39-34 at halftime.Â
Davenport went the first 3:17 of the third quarter without a point before
Courtney McInerney scored and trailed 45-36. With 3:10 left in the quarter, Davenport trailed 51-42 and the Huskies started to put the game out of reach ending the quarter on an 11-0 run to lead 62-42 with 10 minutes remaining. The Huskies outscored the Panthers 17-10 in the fourth quarter to finish with the 27-point outcome.
DU shot 33.3 percent for the game but just couldn't find any success behind the arc going 1-of-15. Michigan Tech shot 52.7 percent overall including 6-of-14 behind the arc. Tech's top two scorers for the season showed up and each scored 15 points in Ellie Mackay and Jordan Ludescher. Davenport was led in scoring by
Toni Grace with 13 points and she also had four rebounds and two assists.
Scout Nelson scored nine points after tying her career high of 18 in the first round versus Northern Michigan.
Isabella Starzyk had a season-high eight points and grabbed five rebounds. McInerney playing in her final game as a Panther had four points, three rebounds and one blocked shot.
