Riding a two-match winning streak, the Davenport University women's volleyball team (2-2) will travel north to the Upper Peninsula to take on Lake Superior State (0-4) on Friday (3 p.m.) and Saturday (12 p.m.). Those two Panther wins came in the first home matches of 2021 when Davenport swept Purdue Northwest in straight sets on back-to-back days. As a result, DU's sophomore middle hitter,
Emmy Webb, was named GLIAC South Player of the Week for the first time in her career after hitting .583 with 23 kills and only two errors on 36 swings.
For the Lakers, they're in search of their first win of the season under fourth-year head coach, Dave Schmidlin. Offensively, Lake Superior State is led by Camdyn Odykirk (19 kills) and Emily Kalinowski (42 assists) while three Lakers have three service aces each including Sydney Briney, Halle Grulke and Emily Hagelthorn. On the defensive side of things, LSSU is paced by Briney's 61 digs, Odykirk's nine total blocks (all assisted) and Bethany Wilson's two solo stuffs.
