CALEDONIA, Mich. - Prior to this season, the Davenport women's soccer program had never defeated or tied Ashland in five all-time meetings, but changed the narrative in the two team's most-recent showdown. Sunday, the Panthers and Eagles played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer for the 0-0 draw.
Davenport is now 2-5-1 on the season while Ashland sits at 6-1-1. The Panthers have yet to decide if the match at Grand Valley State originally scheduled for Friday, April 9 will be made up while the Eagles will finish their regular season on Thursday against Saginaw Valley State.
Sunday, Ashland fired 19 shots to Davenport's nine, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal, and the Panthers were held to just one shot in both overtime periods combined. After not playing on Friday against Saginaw Valley State,
Samantha Beckles was brilliant in goal with a career high 12 saves on 12 shots faced.
Offensively, Davenport's nine shots came from four different players including
Madeleine Zayan (4 shots, 1 SOG),
Ashlyn Skidmore (3 shots, 1 SOG),
Kylee Winn (1 shot, 1 SOG), and
Krystina Dunston (1 shot).
