GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport football team will be welcoming Gannon University to Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex on Friday under the lights for a 6 PM kickoff. The two teams agreed to a home-and-home series during this spring season and the Panthers beat the Golden Knights 30-22 in Erie, Pa. back on March 20.

The Panthers won for the third straight game dating back to the end of the 2019 season. It is the first three-game win streak since winning the first three contests of the 2019 season. The Panthers found themselves down 14-3 in the first quarter and then stormed back with 27 straight points. Brian Plegue had three field goals in the first half to keep the score close and his third one of the game from 38 yards gave DU a 16-14 lead midway through the second quarter.

Kyshawn Richards toted the ball nine times for 105 yards and ran for a 44-yard score early in the second quarter. Shaq Floyd led the defense with three interceptions and returned the third one 51 yards to paydirt to give DU a 23-14 lead in the third quarter.

Amonte Phillips from Chandler Garrett finished the scoring for the Panthers at 10:25 of the fourth quarter. Phillips raced 48 yards to the end zone on the only play of the drive and a 30-14 lead. Gannon scored on their next possession to trim the lead to 30-22 with 5:42 left. DU picked up two first downs on their next drive and Plegue had a 37-yard field goal blocked to keep it a one-score plus two-point conversion game. The Golden Knights got to midfield but four straight incomplete passes ended their chances.

Gannon outgained Davenport, 382-281, in total offense and passed for 226 yards. DU won the turnover battle 4-1 which led to the victory. Justin Castell led the Panthers with 12 tackles and forced a fumble. Brendan Boman had six tackles including two sacks for a loss of 15 yards and forced two fumbles.
