Softball Swept by No. 14 Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Looking for the upset, the Davenport softball team was at No. 14 Grand Valley State for an afternoon doubleheader on Saturday. However, the Lakers swept the Panthers with scores of 7-2 and 14-6 in five innings to take all four meetings of the regular season series.

Davenport (20-21, 16-13 GLIAC) has dropped three games in a row for the first time since before GLIAC play began while Grand Valley State (35-7, 26-4 GLIAC) has won six in a row and nine of its last 10. Next up for the Panthers, they'll close out the regular season with a doubleheader at Ashland on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m.

In game one, Grand Valley State scored three runs in the first inning, one each in the fourth and fifth, and two more in the sixth. Gabby Palazzolo (pictured) brought in both runs for Davenport thanks to an RBI single in the third that scored Ellie Muilenburg and an RBI groundout in the seventh that scored Kenzie Wilkinson.

Muilenburg (8-8) suffered the loss as she gave up seven runs, four earned, on 10 hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. She's now surrendered four earned runs in three-consecutive outings since the 15-strikeout no-hitter against Parkside on April 24.

In the nightcap, Davenport was ahead 2-0 before Grand Valley State exploded for a 12 run bottom of the fourth. The Panthers got four back in the top of the fifth before the Lakers won it with the run rule and two runs in the home half of that inning.

Emma Miller (10-8), Taylor Simon and Elise Magnus each got time in the circle for the Panthers. Miller allowed eight earned runs, tied for the most of her career, and has taken the loss in two of her last three appearances.
