CALEDONIA, Mich. - The fourth and final game of the weekend series against Grand Valley State provided tons of offense with 20 runs and 23 hits as the Panthers beat the Lakers 12-8 to even up the series at 2-2. The Panthers ignited their offense early with eight runs in the first three innings and did not look back.
A total of 10 pitchers were used, five from each team, and in the end it was
Dalton O'Boyle picking up the win with three solid relief innings. O'Boyle won for the first time this season and hadn't appeared in a game since April 3 against SVSU. He allowed five hits, no runs, and also struck out three. The Lakers starting pitcher Ben Thomas took the loss and lasted just 1.2 innings. He allowed five earned runs on five hits and walked one. Davenport hurlers struck out a total of 10 Lakers on the day.
The big hits came from
Travis Harvey with a two-run single in the second.
Nolan Anspaugh homered for the eighth time this season with a two-run blast in the third.
Noah Marcoux had a bases-clearing double in the seventh for three RBI. Christian Faust saw his first action in the series for GVSU and went 3-for-5 with two RBI. He entered the series as the team's leading hitter.
Anspaugh scored twice and also walked twice in addition to the big homer. Marcoux finished 3-for-5 and scored twice. Harvey went 2-for-4 with three total RBI and a walk. DU is now 18-14 overall and 11-9 in the GLIAC. The Panthers have a huge series next weekend as they travel to Detroit to take on league-leading Wayne State with a 20-8 overall record and 12-4 conference mark. The Warriors took all four games against Purdue Northwest this weekend on the road.
