HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Davenport University women's soccer team played its 2021 GLIAC opener at Michigan Tech on Friday night, but fell to the Huskies by a score of 2-0. Next up, the Panthers will host Saginaw Valley State at The Farm on Sunday with the kickoff set for 11 a.m.
Michigan Tech (4-1, 1-0 GLIAC) scored goals in the 54th and 87th minutes while out-shooting Davenport (0-5, 0-1 GLIAC) 22-6, including 12-2 in shots on goal. The Panthers' six shots came from three different players including
Haley Diekevers (4 shots, 1 SOG),
Filippa Struxsjoe (1 SOG) in her Davenport debut and
Izabelle Olsson (1 shot).
In goal,
Samantha Beckles made her third-straight start and saved a season-high nine shot attempts on 22 total shots faced.
