GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's soccer team broke out on Friday against Purdue Northwest and did so in a big way as it rolled past the Pride, 3-0, thanks to three different goal scorers. The Panthers picked up their first win of the fall and will now get set to host Northern Michigan (3-4, 1-2 GLIAC) on Sunday at The Farm beginning at 11 a.m.
Playing in just her third match as a Panther,
Filippa Struxsjoe (pictured) put the home team on the board with a goal in the 35th minute after a fast-break pass ahead off the foot of
Kathryn Hoeger. Under a minute later,
Gabby Scholten found the back of the net for the first time in her career thanks to a beautiful right-to-left cross from
Raegan Radaz.
Davenport wasn't done there, though, as
Haley Diekevers made it a 3-0 Panther advantage in the 61st minute with a strike from 23 yards out, also her first career score, and did it unassisted.
In goal,
Gabriana Bennecke picked up both the second win and second shutout of her career as she faced eight shots and made a save in her 90 minutes on the field.
As a team, the Panthers racked up 20 shots (most since Oct. 13, 2019) and nine shots on goal (tied for most since Oct. 27, 2019) while the final score is their first 3-0 victory since doing so twice in that 2019 campaign. Individually, those 20 shots came from seven different players including Struxsjoe (7 shots, 1 SOG), Diekevers (4 shots, 2 SOG), Scholten (2 shots, 2 SOG),
Francesca MacAnaspie (2 shots, 2 SOG),
Medina Hindic (2 shots, 1 SOG), Hoeger (2 shots), and
Izabelle Olsson (1 SOG).
