KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport men's soccer team had their seven-match unbeaten streak snapped on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 loss at No. 15 Parkside. The last loss for the Panthers also came against Parkside earlier this season by a 1-0 score on Sept. 16.
It was a very well-played match on both sides as both teams finished with six shots on goal. The Rangers opened the scoring in the 29th minute as Osvaldo Sanchez Arellano scored his first goal of the season.
The Panthers found the equalizer in the 61st minute. There was a free kick from around 21 yards out on the right wing. The ball was served into the box and
Cian Quinn got a head on it over to
Matt Whelan in front of the net. Whelan buried his 11th goal of the season to move into the top 10 for a season at DU.
The Rangers answered with the winning goal in the 76th minute. Alejandro Martinez scored from a few yards out and the ball was bounced around inside the box. Martinez's second goal of the season propelled Parkside to their eighth win of the season and fifth in the GLIAC. DU is now 5-6-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the GLIAC. The Panthers will be back home on Friday for their final two home games of the regular season. Friday's opponent is Saginaw Valley State at 1:30 PM. The Cardinals are 10-0-4 overall this season including 7-0-3 in the league and are ranked No. 5 in this week's coaches poll.
