OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Davenport women's golf team finished third out of nine schools at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational which concluded on Sunday (Oct. 30). The Panthers shared the first round lead with Quincy (317) but slipped to third place with a 330 on Sunday. Drury trailed by two strokes heading into the final round and shot 316 to win the tournament by six strokes over Trevecca Nazarene in second place.
Freshman Lauren Gervais made it three straight tournament in the top 2 finishing second but just one stroke back of Jodie Taylor from Trevecca Nazarene. Gervais won medalist honors at Lewis and followed that by finishing second after a four-hole playoff at the Davenport Invitational. She shot +8 (152) and jumped five spots in the final round after shooting 74, the low round of the day in the tournament. Gervais had one birdie in the first round and two more in the final round.
Junior
Ahja Crosby had her best tournament to date with a tie for third place with two other golfers. Crosby tied the school record with a 71 (-1) on Saturday, becoming the fourth Panther to shoot that score. Crosby birdied three holes, bogeyed two holes and parred the other 13. She was two-under par 34 on the back nine with back-to-back birdies on hole 13 and 14. She shot 84 on Sunday to finish at 155 for the tournament.
Freshman Melissa Walker tied for 28th with a score of 173 (83-90). Grad student
Hannah Meloche placed 32nd with a 174 (92-82). Senior
Courtney Coffman placed 36th with a total of 176 (85-91).
