Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Panthers make it two wins in a row with 6-3 decision at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The women's tennis team earned a 6-3 win on the road at Kalamazoo College on Saturday. The victory gave them back-to-back wins for the first time since Feb. 25, 2019 when they beat Saint Mary's (Minn.) and Hanover College on their spring trip to Orlando, Fla.

The doubles portion was played with each match earning a point instead of best two of three. Willemien Coetzee and Vladislava Shumilova cruised to a 8-0 win at one doubles over Sophie Zhuang and Renee Torres. The duo of Kumiko Yamaguchi and Isabella Carofano at two doubles was defeated 8-3 by Maddie Hurley and Caroline Norton. Louise Hosking and Sophie Jackson at three doubles fell 8-3 to Ella Knight and Meghan Killmaster of Kalamazoo.

The Panthers got the job done in singles by winning five out of the six matches. Coetzee at one singles was in a dogfight with Norton of the Hornets and rallied down one set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Carofano won in straight sets at two singles over Torres (6-4, 6-1). Hosking at three singles looked great in the first set with a 6-1 win against Zhuang. However, Zhuang won 6-0 in the second set. Hosking regained her composure for a 6-2 win in third set to win the match. Yamaguchi at four singles won 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 against Hurley. Jackson also picked up a win at six singles after dropping the first set 6-0. She rallied for a 6-0, 10-7 in the super tiebreak.
