Hosking clinches final point in 4-3 victory over Eckerd

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport women's tennis team began their Florida trip with a match that went down to the wire with a 4-3 win over Eckerd. The two teams battled all afternoon and it came down to the final match at No. 3 singles in a tiebreaker. Before we get to that, the Panthers started the doubles with a point winning two of three. Willemien Coetzee and Vladislava Shumilova at No. 1 doubles won 7-5 against Ericka Chavarria and Kylie Misdorp. Isabella Carofano and Kumiko Yamaguchi at No. 2 doubles beat Alexis Kwasnik and Raia Jagger 6-2.

Every singles match either went three sets or into a tiebreaker in a straight sets win or loss. Misdorp won 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 at No. 2 singles over Carofano. Coetzee picked up a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win over Chavarria at No. 1 singles. Julia Triska needed three sets to win over Charlotte Zhuwakini of DU (7-5, 2-6, 7-5). Shumilova put DU ahead 3-2 at No. 5 singles with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Kwasnik. The Tritons tied it up at No. 4 singles as Yamaguchi fell 6-3, 6-7, 8-10 against Lili Reichert. Louise Hosking and Theo Schultz were the last two on the courts and Hosking rallied after a 6-1 loss in the first set. She won 6-3 and 12-10 in the tiebreaker for the 4-3 win. Davenport is now 4-6 this season while Eckerd is 1-5.
