ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport men's tennis team got yet another 4-3 win on Monday and this time it came against Southeastern (FL) to run their record to 9-0. The evening match against Florida Southern was cancelled due to rain.
The final point was hinged upon the outcome at six singles between DU's
Daniil Khitrou and Southeastern's Christian DellaCioppa. Khitrou won the match 6-4, 6-3 to extend the best start in school history at 9-0 overall. The Panthers took the doubles point two to one.
Quintan van Wijk and
Joel Mast have been magic since joining the team this semester and won 6-2 at two doubles over Victor Olivera and Diego Menendez. Mast and van Wijk improved to 7-0 in doubles together.
Jonathan Bulmer and
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen also won 6-4 at one doubles over Roy Stepanov and Federico Barbon.
van Wijk won his singles match at the two-spot easily 6-1, 6-1 over Enrique Martinez. Mast at four singles beat Olivera in three sets by scores of 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 and was the third singles match to finish. The team is scheduled to play three matches tomorrow on a busy day. They take on Rose-Hulman and Findlay at 12:30 PM and will split their team for those matches. DU concludes the day at 7:30 PM with a full team available against Eastern Florida State.
