Panthers claim another nail-biter 4-3 at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In a showdown between two teams that used to be common opponents during the NAIA and WHAC days, the Davenport men's tennis team beat Indiana Tech 4-3 on Friday to extend their record to 13-1 this season. The Warriors fall to 8-2 on the season.

DU playing their first match since being ranked No. 20 in NCAA DII got a scare from the Warriors before pulling out the one-point win. It looked like it might be an easy day after winning all three doubles matches for the Panthers. The Warriors managed no more than three games won in any of those matches.

The top of the order in singles for Davenport took care of business. Juan-Louis van Antwerpen at one singles won 6-2, 6-2 over Juan Avellaneda and Quintan van Wijk at two singles won 6-1, 6-4 over Jakub Federowicz.

Indiana Tech gained momentum at three singles as Anastasis Lavdas got a big win over Jonathan Bulmer in three sets after Bulmer won the first set 6-4. Lavdas rallied to finish up 6-4, 6-4 in the next two sets. Phil Labbe at four singles won 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 against Joel Mast.

Michel Zobel at five singles beat Frank Piana III 6-2, 6-2 and the Panthers also got a victory at six singles by Daniil Khitrou 6-1, 6-0 against Lee Chan.
