ORLANDO, Fla. - The men's tennis team faced their toughest test this week at the end of their spring break trip when they took the courts against 21st-ranked Charleston (WV). The Panthers passed the test with a 4-3 win over UC and in the process beat a D2 nationally-ranked opponent for the first time since joining NCAA Division II. The Golden Eagles entered the match at 6-0 and the Panthers are beginning to garner some attention improving to 12-1 overall.
Charleston won the first point of the match in doubles claiming victory at the one and three flights.
Quintan van Wijk and
Joel Mast at two doubles picked up a 6-3 win over Daniel Llorente and Krish Patel.
The singles flights were very nerve-wracking as the Panthers had to win four matches in a super tiebreaker. van Wijk completed his match at two singles with a 6-0, 3-6, 11-9 triumph.
Jonathan Bulmer won 6-0, 5-7, 10-5 at three singles against Marshall Dagostine. Mast competed at four singles and won 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 against Patel. The match was tied at 3 apiece as the final match on the courts was five singles.
Daniil Khitrou had a steely nerve and came back from down a set to win by scores of 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.
