GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The start of the GLIAC schedule has been a gauntlet for the men's tennis team. They were fortunate enough to play the first three matches at home but after an opening win over Northwood has now dropped a second straight match with a 6-1 loss to Ferris State on Friday afternoon.
The team played No. 9 Wayne State in their last matchup and in this one they tangled with No. 26 Ferris State who improved to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the GLIAC. No. 24 Davenport still has an excellent record at 14-4 and are now 1-2 in the conference.
The Bulldogs won two of three in doubles to get things going. 
Quintan van Wijk and 
Joel Mast got that win at the two position with a 7-6 (7-3) victory over Benjamin Lortie and Alessandro Santangelo.
Mathis Guerre got a 6-2, 6-4 win at one singles over 
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen. van Wijk continued to impress moving to 14-2 in singles this season and 3-0 in the GLIAC. He beat Jan Koupil at two singles by scores of 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Santangelo at five singles was given fits by 
Daniil Khitrou. Khitrou lost 7-5 in the first set and won 6-3 in the second set. Santangelo won the match 10-7 in the third set super tiebreaker.
